New York
On the night of 28 June 1969, something historic happened in New York City. For the first time, gays and drag queens in particular put up massive resistance against arbitrary controls and harassment by the police and authorities.
The uprising around the trendy Stonewall Inn bar at the time is now regarded as the initial spark for the international gay and lesbian emancipation movement. New York is therefore the birthplace of all CSDs worldwide. This is not the only reason why New York City is at the top of the TO DO list for many LGBTQ+ travellers.
